The Effects of Renewable and Non-renewable Energy Consumption and Economic Growth on CO2 Emissions: Empirical Evidence from Developing Countries

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study examines the effects of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption economic growth on CO2 emissions for 53 developing countries during period 1990-2014. For this purpose, employs a two-step difference Generalized Method Moments (GMM) approach. Empirical results show that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between emissions, which shows validity environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis. The effect (REC) was found to be negative significant, while (NREC) positive significant. Moreover, both positively affect growth. Thus, aiming reduce consequent pollution, it necessary share NREC in total increase REC. Furthermore, because affects growth, efficiency resources should increased order not damage process decreasing use.

Renewable Energy Consumption, Economic Growth and Co2 Emissions: Evidence from Selected Mena Countries

This paper uses panel cointegration techniques to examine the causal relationship between renewable energy consumption, economic growth and CO2 emissions for a group of 12 MENA countries covering the annual period 1975-2008. The Granger-causality results indicate that there is no causal relationship between these variables in short run except a unidirectional causality running from renewable en...

Investigating the effect of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on social welfare in developing Asian countries: Quantile regression approach

Energy as one of the factors of production along with labor and capital has an important role in development and social welfare. Due to the pollution of non-renewable resources and its negative impact on welfare, the use of renewable resources can improve social welfare by eliminating pollutants. In this study, the effect of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on social welfare of de...

Economic Growth and Renewable Energy in Iran

Energy plays an active role in sustainable development in Iran, both in the sustainable and the development aspects. This study aims to estimate the nexus of economic growth and the renewable energy in Iran during 1981-2012. We employ the Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to estimate a log-linear equation. The results suggest that renewable energy consumption is an insignificant driv...

The Impact of Renewable Energy Sources on Economic Growth and CO2 Emissions - a SVAR approach

We analyze how an increasing share of Renewable Energy Sources on Electricity generation (RES-E) affects Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions using a 3 variable Structural Vector Autoregressive (SVAR) methodology. We used a sample of four countries with different levels of economic development and social and economic structures but a common effort of investment in RES...
